Turning a conversation into a comic.
I interviewed Antonia Godber last week for almost an hour and a half. Here’s how I turned that conversation into a comic.
Finding the story
Antonia shared a lot of wisdom, things that helped me personally. I would have loved to share it all with you. But a story is not a collection of insights, it needs to go from one place to another. It could be a literal journey or a personal evolution, but there’s a beginning, where you end up and what happens to get there (middle). Finding those pieces helped me put the framework together for this comic.
Writing and drawing
Here’s where it gets tricky for me. I can’t write without sketching, or sketch without writing, but when I do both at the same time, it becomes a mess.
So a mess it is…
I’ve come to accept this as part of my process. I will start sketching on my iPad, get annoyed with myself for having to erase the text a million times, do some writing on my laptop, get stuck, have some sleep, take a shower, repeat the steps above and finally something will emerge. It’s not half as frustrating once you understand all of those things are necessary to get where you want to be.
I’m happy to report, something is indeed emerging and I’m expecting to share the finished comic before the end of this month.
