Recipes for those who can't cook.
You’ve probably heard me talk about what my daily sketching practice did for me. Practicing consistently, even just for 20 minutes a day, will improve your skills radically. Of course, that goes for any skill, including cooking.
When I met Peter, he quickly decided he was going to invest his time in not having to eat my food. Now he’s a great chef and I have the cooking skills of a 12 year old. (I didn’t get married that young, but have a screaming lack of talent.)
If you’re thinking Peter could teach me, I’m afraid our styles don’t match.
I’m lucky to have a husband who enjoys to cook, but there are days when he’s not home for dinner I have to drag myself to the kitchen, usually when I’m already hungry and grumpy.
This week I was actually excited about a recipe. I’ve been following Veganricha on Instagram and her recipes look delicious and healthy and… simple. I was ready to make this Vegan Spinach Artichoke Pasta Bake.
My mother-in-law was visiting, I was going to show her I can do stuff. Like an adult.
Here’s how that went.
While I was wallowing in self pity, mother-in-law swooped in with a potato masher to do the blending.
It kind of worked.
Then somehow it came out the oven fully baked but lukewarm.
About that sketchbook, if you draw daily it can be hard to decide what to draw. So sometimes, I just draw what I ate. That’s why I now have a small collection of comic recipes! I’ll share some of my favorites here.

P.S. I’m trying to be less dependent on social media and invest my time in these emails instead. Emails are not as easy to discover, so if you have a friend who might enjoy them as well, please forward this email!
Great to see you do it (still not cooking myself hehe!) it’s very entertaining and relatable 👍😳🥰
My favorite of this (among so many) is your face & words as you’re inhaling the portobellos burger hahaha. I am definitely starting the 20min daily drawing! You’re such an inspiration💓💓
