It’s exactly one year ago that we landed in the Netherlands after 5 years in Los Angeles. Our new adventure started like this:
In my defense, I hadn’t seen an electric waterboiler for 5 years and this one did look exactly like an old fashioned kettle. At least to my jet lagged eye.
This was in a furnished apartment that we had for 6 weeks until our stuff arrived. We had to move fast to find a home.
After a few disappointments we did find a nice house with an interesting feature.
Our stuff from LA arrived without a problem.
Our youngest was only 8 months old when we moved to the States, so there was a lot for him to discover.
And of course there was Covid, which caused a culture shock in itself. We went from ‘stay at home orders’ and tangible fear of Corona to brimming shopping streets and indoor dining.
Last summer in the Netherlands, masks were not really a thing yet.
When fall came and unfortunately the infections spread fast, we masked up as well. Stores and restaurants closed in December and we did a few weeks of distance learning after winter break.
Since people are getting their shots, things have been opening up again. Chances are we’re going to ditch our masks next week! It would be nice to finally see everyone’s faces and to start making friends here in our new home town.
As for our tiny American tourist, he is totally Dutch now.
With love,
P.S. Chances are, you haven’t seen these cartoons before because I didn’t share them on social media. I did post them on my Patreon, where I share all of my comics, usually about 3 per week. If you’d like to receive those and support my work, sign up there for only $5 a month.
Haha 😂 love Coen in the last comic
I did the same with my mother’s electric water kettle... it was right after my second son’s birth. My neurones hadn’t fully grown back
