Hi all!
Summer break is over, the kids are back at school and our oldest brought home a stack of new school books. The smell of new beginnings!
Now that Peter is all vaccinated and back at the office, I have a room to myself, so we decided to turn it into a studio/guest room.
As with most creative projects, not everything pans out right away.
If only that would work!
When it comes to drawing your own face, I have to say, every try does make it a little bit better.
For some reason, I kept drawing self portraits this summer. One thing I liked about it is that it doesn’t require a lot of thinking. Just looking at the picture and painting what I saw was easier to do than cooking up a comic.
Quite frankly, I just can’t think when there are 4 other people in the house. It frustrated me after a few weeks, so …
I give this experience 3 out of 4 stars, because 1 person distracting me is better than 4.
Now on to finishing that new room! I like to take my 14 year old daughter when I go shopping, she keeps me in check. Or well, somewhat.
I hope you enjoyed this email! As always, please feel free to hit the reply button, I love to hear from you.
Next time, hopefully I’ll be able to share pictures of my new studio space.
Best,
I totally understand what you meant when you said "doing self-portraits is much easier than cooking up a comic". It's common for people to think comics are easier to do than "more serious-looking drawings" like a portrait. But the idea behind making an engaging comic is not easy at all. So, kudos, Betje, for using your gift so well!
