A few weeks ago, I received an email from someone from the editorial team of a new app. He told me they are growing to 4 million users this year and they would like to feature some of my cartoons on their opening page. The email also had a bunch of impressive stickers at the bottom!
I couldn’t believe my luck! Just as I was getting ready for my crowdfunding campaign, this felt like a gift straight from heaven. It reminded me of that time my work went viral. In 2016, I flung some of my cartoons on Bored Panda and the next day, my Instagram exploded. These were some of the cartoons that seemed to be everywhere:
Up until this moment, I was creating cartoons very irregularly as I was focussing on illustration and greeting card design. Seeing so many people respond to my work made me commit to cartooning and I started to make at least a few cartoons a week.
My cartoons were getting better and now that I knew how this ‘going viral business’ worked, I posted it on Bored Panda and…
nothing happened!
Clearly, Bored Panda is not what it used to be, but this brand new app with the fancy stickers might be?
I spend a couple of hours selecting comics to go with some sound (if I may say so) parenting advice, send it in and… you probably saw this one coming…
the whole thing was a scam.
Despite not going viral, the crowdfunding is going well!
Almost 90% funded with almost 2 weeks to go, I’m almost starting to believe we’re getting there! 😀
If you like the cartoons above, I’m offering them on postcards. There’s one packet left as an add-on. They’re also part of the superdeal bundle - only two of those left!
With love,
