Give someone your weight
Last summer, I took a daylong dancing class with a group of about twenty strangers.
I’m not a dancer. Physical contact with strangers makes me uncomfortable. But I had seen a sample of this dance and it looked cool.
I do like to look cool.
Eventually, we all had to move from one side of the stage to the other, like this:
Before we could do all this, we practiced rolling on the floor in pairs of two. We weren’t supposed to use our hands.
It wasn’t, at least not for me:
However, the teacher came in to provide a piece of wisdom that not only helped me succeed, I still like to think about it, almost a year later.
I try to remember this whenever I need someone’s help. Whether I could use a ride or someone to look after one of my kids or water my plants, I try not to think of this as ‘asking for a favor’.
I’m giving someone my weight.
It’s scary, but I know that I’m probably doing more damage if I don’t, because we all need to feel needed!
By giving someone my weight, I invite them to put some weight on me in return.
It’s how we move forward.
I hope this will help you put your weight on the people in your life!
