How are you feeling in this brand new year? And how was your winterbreak? Was it exhausting or did you get to replenish your energy levels?
I thought I was going to be working, but hen I got the best Christmas present I could have hoped for: my editor pushed the deadline for my book a month out, from February 1st first to March.
For two weeks, I did little other than reading books, knitting and running, sometimes several of these things at once (hurray for audiobooks!). I rewatched a bunch of Marvel movies, kicked ass at Scrabble and that was about it. There was a tiny slice of guilt I felt about this gluttonous bout of self care, only because of all the posts I saw about other people’s New Year’s resolutions. I didn’t have any and I didn’t feel like thinking about it either.
But as I’m writing this, it’s the first Monday in a new year and when I got out of bed, I thought about what I heard at the start of one of my guided runs.
Sometimes, this trainer asks to think of a word during the run. While I would pick ‘PUSH’, when he picks a word, it’s ‘CONFIDENT’, ‘STRONG’ or even ‘FUN’. The goal of this running program is not to get to the finish line as fast as you can. It’s to enjoy the process so that you reach your goal in a sustainable way.
I finally have a book deal, something I’ve been wanting for a very long time. But I don’t think any of the fretting and banging my head against the wall in frustration has got me there. It was two things: showing up and patience.
So as we’re easing (?) into 20250, I wish that you’ll have the confidence to show up to the work that matters to you, knowing you’re worthy of love and belonging, even when you’re sitting on your butt, achieving absolutely nothing. I hope that you can be patient with yourself as you gradually get closer to who you want to be. And whatever it is you chose to do, I wish you lots and lots of fun along the way.
With love,
P.S. I didn’t even draw dailies during the break, but I restarted. Here’s the first one of the year. (Both of my kids had this same experience babysitting recently.)
Babysitting joke was the best!!
Fun! I’m glad you got to rest. I took on a “klusje” that I shouldn’t have at the last minute and regretted slogging through it during the vacation. But I finally got a few days to recharge and am so happy to be back at it again now. Curious about your book!
