I’ve said this before and I might be saying this forever…
For over four years I’ve been making cartoons about climate change and every time I’m asked to do another live cartooning session, I wonder if it will be the first one where my brain will tell me it’s done with this subject.
So far, it doesn’t seems to work that way. Over the last two weeks I’ve done events for the Climate Centre back to back and by the end of that, I felt like I couldn’t stop. It seemed that everything could be turned into a cartoon. After more than sixty cartoon ideas, I felt like I had cartoon diarrhea.
On that note, one of the projects (called IDAlert) was about how global warming is affecting the spread of infectious diseases in Europe and how to prevent that.
Researches were sharing their progress on a project that prevents mosquitoes to lay their eggs in sewage drains.
It was fun to put myself in the shoes of a mosquito for a change.
They’re also working on ways to detect and predict the emergence of certain diseases. I image not long from now, we’ll not only be checking the weather before we go on a vacation.
One of the ways they do this, is by having citizens report whenever they see a tick or mosquito.
I learned a lot and as long as I’m growing and learning, I think my brain will pay me back with more ideas.
Did you know that sparrows are more likely to pass on West Nile virus than any other bird?
With love,
Live drawing - how fun/nerve wracking!
Excellent work! Here's a bit of inspiration that I don't think anyone has even thought about. As the world warms, it creates more suitable conditions for food borne pathogens like listeria, e-coli, and salmonella. Here in the US we've seen an explosion in these contaminants. While investigators point to the various conditions of where the food is made or grown, little thought is given as to why these pathogens are getting so prevalent.
There's a whole graphic novels worth of material for you, have at it. :)
